Exercise 2: Identify Potential Mentors

Identify three potential mentors – work out who they are, how they got where they are, and how you can contact them. Superstars are hard to contact and London is hard to get to- so be practical in your choices. You want someone with local contacts, knowledge and experience who will have the time and generosity to offer.

Campus East (UOW Accommodation Service): I have been employed as a Student Leader at Campus East for two years now. During this role, I have had experience with event creation, event management, office training, and working with students and Head of Colleges of UOW. I would consider my supervisor, Thidarat Thongdang, a mentor as she has encouraged me to push my event ideas further and has developed my organisation skills in event management. She has provided me with many opportunities and is well connected in the UOW community which may beneficial for future work endeavours.

Tutor Christopher Moore: I had Dr Christopher Moore as my tutor in my first year for BCM112. I had always admired his enthusiasm and passion he had for cyberculture and the digital world. It wasn’t until this session that I had him again as a tutor for DIGC335. I consider him to be a potential mentor as he always makes me strive for greater things and suggests great ways to improve my projects. He has encouraged me to use mediums I would have never considered before and opened my eyes to how technology influences our world.

Christine Forsyth (Mother): Although our mothers are always our biggest fans, she has inspired and influenced my decision in pursuing an artistic career. My mother graduated with a Bachelor of Graphic Design at CSU, she then completed her Master’s in Education. She has been my Visual Arts teacher from Year 4 through to Year 12. She has always pushed my concepts to new levels and allowed me to explore a variety of artists that have heavily influenced my works today.
